honestly honesty

Bethany over at Love the Grows has this series called "Our Little Secret", and I thought it'd be fun to link up with her and do it too!  My favorite blogs are those ones that talk about the funny little things that happen in day to day life with the right amount of sarcasm and irony, so I thought I'd try to do that more.  Hope you enjoy this post. :)

Sometimes I'm unsure about what I'm really doing with this blog.  Does it have a future?  Do I want to just start over?  I'm thinking of changing some things in the coming year--we'll see!

Sometimes I just live in hoodies and sweat pants all winter.  I wake up, take a shower, put the hoodie on, and then wear it all day.  Then I sleep in it.  And if my sweat pants are dirty...I'll wear my snow pants.  Hey, there's no shame here.  Honesty builds...blogging relationships?

Some mornings, when I'm sleeping and wearing said hoodie, I'll put the hood over my head and roll over on my stomach in the hopes that maybe my mother will think I've gone on to be with the Lord and will cover me with another blanket.  Rest in peace.  Oh, I'll be resting in peace then--I'll finally be warm!  It's just so stinkin' cold here!

Lately I really like harmonizing.  I always used to just sing melody to everything, but I've found that harmonizing is really fun and can sound really beautiful!  But you know how there are those times when you just cannot figure out the tune to a song or, in this case, the harmony.  When I'm driving alone I like to belt out whatever song comes on the radio, and sometimes I just cannot find the right note.  It sounds like this: high, a little lower, even lower than that so it sounds like I'm competing with the bass, and then really high so it sounds like I'm screeching or getting murdered.  Anyone who's not with me during those times should be thankful.  Poor Chloe.  She's the only one I'm willing to sing with in the car, so she'll get the full brunt of this singing disaster.  I just know she's wondering what on earth is going on.  She used to sing so pretty; what's happening?!  Well, she's definitely getting old.  That must be it...

There are nights when I go to let my old dog, Sal (the one who scared me last night?!), in at night and I can't find him.  I'll frantically check the garage, the backyard, and the front yard, and then repeat all of that.  And just as I start crying in the front yard, accepting the fact that he's died, he comes running up to me, wagging his tail like everything's okay.  So then I'll cry a little more and give him a hug before ordering him to get inside because he just gave me a heart attack!

I have a habit of playing with my hair.  I run my fingers through it constantly, and when I'm really bored I'll study the ends and pick off the split ends.  Is it sad that I actually have a schedule for how often I get my hair cut?  As a broke college student, I can't afford to cut it every six weeks, so I just go every three months.  January, April, July, October.  And this month there's a sale!!!  (my excitement at that shows you how broke I am)

Some days Rachel's retarded, fat cat decides he needs to get a drink out of Jonah's tank.  So he'll teeter there on the edge, risking his life for a simple drink of water.  I just know he's going to fall in and I'm not going to notice.

And then there are days when I am just in awe of how good the Lord is to me.  He will provide the resources, the direction, and the love.  I don't have to worry about a thing.

this is the story of Dec. 20

Today was...a day.

Is it pathetic that I just had to blog about it?

It all started when I was trying to sew a Christmas present for someone, who shall remain nameless in case they read this.  BUT, seeing as this was really my first time ever actually using the sewing machine--and by using I mean hardcore use, not just a little patch job--something had to go wrong, right?

This particular sewing job ended up taking WAY more time than I had anticipated.  And I was so close to the end!  I could taste freedom!  And then I realized I needed to take out a whole bunch of stitching so I could sew something on that I should have sewed first before sewing the aforementioned part.

I am just so easy to understand late at night.

But no matter.  I sang along to this song while I took out the stitching, and moved on to sew the next part.

Now, understand, I'm completely new to this.  I can't even thread the machine without my mother's assistance.  So, I forgot to take out one of the pins.  And I said to myself, No matter.  I'll just shove it on through.  Everything will be fine.

But then it jammed, and I realized this wasn't going to work.  So I decided to start over at the beginning.  And that's when I discovered...that the needle was gone.

Heavens above, I've broken my mother's sewing machine.

Apparently I didn't actually break it, but the needle was indeed gone.  So I decided to give up for the day and continue tomorrow.

Tonight has just been one fright after another.  To start with, I was sitting on the couch, just minding my own business and listening to my music, when suddenly my old, feeble dog jumps up off the floor and starts barking like a maniac.  Scared the living daylights out of me.  Also, both of my sisters had suddenly disappeared, so I just knew that he was warning me that someone was kidnapping them.  But, turns out he was only dreaming.  Couldn't he dream a little more quietly?

I'd finally calmed myself down from that ordeal, got my music going again, when suddenly I hear this strange noise near me.  I look up, and Ellie's dog is freaking out this time, gagging and heaving all over the place.  I got up so fast to let him out, I dropped my laptop on the floor.  I succeeded in getting him outside before he threw up all over the floor, but by this time I had so much adrenaline rushing through me I was pretty much hysterical.  I almost collapsed on the floor.

My laptop's okay.  My nerves, however are shot.

Hope this made you laugh.

let's resolve : : November '12 results + December '12

I had so much fun this month working through my goals and keeping them in mind a little bit every day!  So, on to how I did.

1. Get a job.  Nope.  Still unemployed.  And I'm really unsure about still looking around and applying because my school schedule for next semester is going to be busier than it's ever been--going four days a week instead of two.  But we'll see what happens.

2. Make a craft.  Sort of...  I made this scarf after seeing this tutorial, and I really love it!  But my dad said it didn't really count since it was only sewing a piece of fabric together at the ends.  To which I say, it was certainly a feat for me!  I'd never even used the sewing machine before.  But I am planning on actually making some Christmas presents for my family sometimes next week, so yes, I'll have made a craft, even if it is a few days late.

3. Cook something.  Again, sort of.  I made a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, but that's so simple, I don't really know if I'd count it.  I'm going to try and start cooking more, though; it's actually not as bad as I thought it'd be.

4. Write Christmas letters to all of my Compassion children.  Yes!

5. Finish memorizing 1 Corinthians 1.  This chapter has been giving me grief.  I have made so much progress, but I'm not quite finished with it.  The way I memorize is that I just read through the chapter once every day during my devotions.  Memorizing individual verses never really worked for me; I had a hard time sticking everything together.  Usually I take about a month for each chapter, but this one's a bit longer than the others I've memorized.  I'll be done soon though!

And now on to my goals for December and into January.  I'm going to make a separate post with my resolutions for 2013 at the beginning of January.  These are just my smaller goals for this specific month.

1. Complete 1 Corinthians 1 and move on to chapter 2, along with reviewing 1 Timothy.  When I'm in the middle of memorizing a new chapter, I often let other chapters slip, so I'm going to try to do both at once.

2. Write in my journal every day, focusing each day on a resolution from Jonathan Edwards.  This will take me more than two months--there are 70 resolutions--but over this first month I want to try and work on consistency.  I've been doing it for a few days now, and I really like it!  It's nice being able to go through these resolutions one by one.  They're so powerful!

3. Floss.  Every single day.  I am usually very consistent about this, but I skip a day or two here and there.  I want to try and stop doing that because my new insurance plan doesn't cover dental, so who knows when I'll be getting my teeth looked at again!  I want to keep them healthy, as much as is in my power to do so.

4. Read at least three good books.  I want to stay busy while I'm out of school, and I figure this is a good way to start.  I'm going to try and finish "Tramp for the Lord" and "The Cost of Discipleship", and then I'll find something else.  By "good" I mean "edifying".  I'm reading "All's Quiet on the Western Front" too, but that's not really edifying.  I'm going to try and finish it, but I also want to read something else that's better for me spiritually.

5. Be in bed by midnight every night.  My time at Glorieta murdered my previously awesome (= responsible) sleeping schedule.  I want to get back on track with it again, especially since I have an 8:30 class next semester and I don't want to fall asleep.  Or die. :)

I break things

I'm spending today rushing to complete all my final projects that are due by midnight.  I have a massive paper to write that I thought was due on Friday, but I found out yesterday that it's actually due today.  Oh yeah.  I'm on top of things like that.

Of course, it's always at times like these, when I have no time, that I have new inspiration for a song.  But for that I'll make time, because it's there one moment, and then it's gone.  These darn finals will stick with me and wait till I'm done.

This is how my mom handles me breaking all the toothbrush holders.  Seriously, I break all of them.  This is the perfect solution.  Not so easily breakable, far away from the edge.  Me-proof.

Have a great Wednesday!  Hopefully it's more relaxing than mine is. :)
